Liaoxiornis is the smallest bird known from the Mesozoic Era
and once thrived with other dinosaurs in the Liaoning Province of China.
While Laioxiornis had the body style of a typical bird,
it is part of a group of birds called Enantiornithines or "opposite birds"
which eventually became extinct with other dinosaurs,
leaving the more modern group of birds to develop
into the bird varieties that we see today.
